Hair salons and barbershops
A hair salon books people rather than pets, and sells products and gift cards too.
Pet shops and groomers
The grooming room and the shop work in one Magpie team. Each groomer has their own weekly hours and calendar.

Appointments gives the business a booking page for grooms. A grooming business starts with a one-hour Grooming service and 15 minutes free after it. You can add your own, such as a nail trim. Each has its length, price and the groomers who do it.
Owners choose a groom, a groomer or anyone available, and a time. They book without signing up first. Magpie offers only times the groomer's hours, calendar and bookings leave free. They can move or cancel from the confirmation email, up to the notice you set.
Contacts keeps each owner's details and every groom they have booked. A booking finds the owner's contact by email address, or adds one. Their contact lists every appointment, including cancelled ones and no-shows.
A pinned note about the dog, such as its breed, stays near the top. You can add a dated note after each groom. A search for the dog's name finds its owner. A follow-up to rebook a regular becomes a To-do with a reminder.
Store is your online shop for food, treats and toys. Food can come in bag sizes or flavours, each with its own price and stock. Buyers pay on Stripe's checkout page, into your Stripe account. They can collect from the shop or choose local delivery.
You can record counter sales paid in cash or on your own card terminal. Each sale comes out of the same stock as your online orders.
Inventory counts food and treats in your suppliers' packs, such as a case of 12 tins. You can record each lot's expiry date as a delivery arrives. You record stock past its date as waste, with the reason Expired.
Items below their minimum are listed as running low. From that list, you can draft one order for each supplier. Magpie emails it, or you mark it sent. Once you link each shop product to its item, every sale comes out of this stock.
Staff Scheduling gives the shop a rota with positions and shifts ready to use. A shop starts with Cashier and Stock positions, and Opening and Closing shifts. You can add your own, such as Groomer and Bather. Shifts stay drafts until you publish the week.
People you invite see their own shifts. They can swap, ask for cover, take open shifts or ask for time off. Magpie checks each change against time off, availability and your rules. A groomer's weekly hours for bookings are set apart from the rota.
The owner's details are entered once, when they book.
The owner picks a groom, a groomer and a time on your booking page. You can also book a groom for an owner who phones. Magpie will email them a confirmation.
The booking adds an event to the groomer's calendar, named after the groom and the owner. The booking overview lists the day's grooms.
Magpie matches the owner to their contact by email address, or adds one. The visit is listed on their contact, beside your notes about the dog.
You mark the appointment completed or a no-show. The owner's contact will show which.
You start an invoice from the owner's contact, add the groom and send it. The owner can pay by card from the email. You can also record a payment in cash or on your own card terminal.
Accounting adds the invoice as Services income, and each payment against it. A cash payment goes to Cash, and an online card payment to Stripe balance.
You create a team and invite each groomer. Help: Create and manage a team.
You choose Pet grooming, then add your services and each groomer's weekly hours. Then you preview the booking page and publish it. Help: Set up Appointments.
You connect Stripe, name the shop and add what you sell. Then you add local pickup at the shop. Help: Set up and publish a Store.
You turn on card payments in your invoice settings. Each invoice email will then have a Pay online button. Help: Record invoice payments and refunds.
You add the shop's staff to the rota by name, and publish a first week. Help: Plan and publish a staff schedule.
A groomer who takes bookings is a member of the team. A free team has 3 member places, counting you. The Team plan has 25, at one price. Shop staff on the rota take a place only once they accept an invitation.
Appointments, Contacts, Invoicing, Store, Inventory and Staff Scheduling are on every plan. A free team keeps up to 100 contacts, one for each owner who books. It creates up to 5 invoices a month. Pro and the Team plan have neither limit.
Magpie adds no fee to online shop sales or invoice payments. Stripe's processing fee is taken from each card payment.
A hair salon books people rather than pets, and sells products and gift cards too.
A bike shop books repairs as appointments and bills them with an invoice. Its parts are kept in Inventory.
Yes. Owners choose a groom, a groomer or anyone available, and a free time. They give a name and email address, and a phone number if they like. Magpie checks the time again as they book. It will email a confirmation with the groom, the groomer, the time and the place.
Yes. When more than one groomer does a groom, the owner chooses one by name. Choosing anyone available offers each start time once, and gives it to the first free groomer. You set the name shown for each groomer. Moving a groom from the owner's link keeps the same groomer.
Yes. Each service has its own length, typed as you would say it, such as 90 min. Its price is shown on the booking page. You can keep time free before and after it for cleaning down. Owners see only times when the groom and its free time fit the groomer's hours.
Yes. The confirmation email links to a page where the owner can move or cancel the groom. A new time stays with the same groomer. After the notice you set begins, the page asks them to contact you. Magpie will email them the new time or the cancellation.
Yes. You can book a groom yourself for an owner who calls or comes in. You choose the groom, the groomer and a time the booking page would offer. Then you enter the owner's name and email address, and a phone number if you like. The owner will get the same confirmation email.
Your notes about each dog go on its owner's contact. A pinned note, such as what the dog is nervous of, stays near the top. You can add a dated note after each groom. A search for the dog's name finds its owner. Internal notes on an appointment are seen by your team, never by the owner.
Yes. The owner's contact lists each appointment, beside your notes and their invoices. Each shows whether it was cancelled, completed or a no-show. The list of past bookings also shows every earlier groom, with the owner, groom and groomer.
Each booking adds an event to the groomer's calendar, named after the groom and the owner. The list of bookings has Today, Upcoming, Past and Cancelled. Each entry shows the time, the owner, the groom and the groomer. The overview shows today's grooms, or the next ones when there are none today.
You send an invoice from the owner's contact, with the groom on it. With Stripe connected and card payments on, the email has a Pay online button. The owner pays by card without signing up first, into your Stripe account. Magpie adds no fee. You can also record a payment in cash or on your own card terminal.
A Form can ask for the pet's name, breed, age and vet. A File question takes a vaccination record as a PDF or photo, up to 10 MB. Owners answer from its link or a QR code, without signing up first. You will get an email for each response. The files are seen only by people who can see the responses.
Yes. A service can require one resource from Resource Booking, such as the hydrobath. Owners see only times when it is open and free for the whole groom. It is reserved with each booking. Moving the groom moves the reservation, and cancelling frees it.
Yes. You can set a dated follow-up on the owner's contact, such as Full groom due. It becomes a To-do, with the usual reminders. Contacts lists every open follow-up as Overdue, Today, Upcoming or No date.
Yes. Each bag size, such as 2 kg or 12 kg, can have its own stock count. A sale you record at the counter comes out of it, as an online order does. When none is left, the online shop shows it as Sold out.
Yes. You can turn on expiry dates for an item. Receiving a delivery then asks for its lot and the date it expires. The item's page lists each lot in stock with its date. You record stock past its date as waste, with the reason Expired.
Yes. A gift card can have fixed amounts and, if you choose, a custom amount. The buyer can have it emailed to someone on a date they pick, or keep it. Its holder spends it on products and delivery in your online shop. A bought card never expires and carries no fee.
Yes. You write the post in Social Media, with your photos, and choose its time. When the time comes, Magpie will email you a reminder to post to Instagram. On a phone, Magpie copies the text and opens the share sheet with every photo. Posts to Bluesky, Mastodon and LinkedIn are published at the time you choose.
The booking page has its own address, which you can copy from the overview. You can start a Social Media post with it. A Link-In-Bio List can link to it too. A QR code made from the address can go on the counter or a business card.
