Animal rescues and shelters

Adopters apply on one form, and each application moves across a board to a new home. Sponsors give every month, and volunteers see their shifts.

The staff and regular volunteers work in one Magpie team. Adopters, fosterers and sponsors use the forms and pages you publish.

Each animal needing a home is posted where people will see it.

Social Media publishes to Bluesky, Mastodon and LinkedIn at the time you choose. Posts for Instagram and X are prepared, with a reminder when it is time.

A campaign groups the posts for one appeal, such as a litter of kittens.

Hollybank Rescue’s Social Media page: an Instagram post ready to share, and the posts coming up this week with the accounts each one goes to.

Adopters apply for a dog or a cat on one form.

Forms builds an adoption application with your questions, such as the home and other pets. A File question can take a photo of the garden.

Every application comes into one list, and you get an email for each one. A second form can take fostering applications.

The Form builder with Hollybank Rescue’s adoption application: a short note, then questions for a name, an email, a phone number and the animal each person is interested in.

Each adoption moves across the board, from application to home.

Kanban Boards holds each application as a card, in columns such as home check. Each card has an assignee, a due date and To-dos.

Comments and photos stay on the card. A link lets a foster carer see the board without signing in.

Feeding, cleaning and medicines are ticked off on time.

Daily Operations gives the kennels their routines, such as morning feeds, cleaning and the medicine round. A step can ask for a yes or no, a number or a photo.

Notes for the next shift stay on the day's page, such as a dog not eating. A broken kennel latch is reported with what to do.

Volunteers see their own shifts, from dog walking to the kennels.

Staff Scheduling plans the week, with positions such as kennels, dog walking and reception. Each volunteer you invite sees their own shifts.

An open shift waits for someone to take it. Volunteers can swap a shift or ask for time off.

Hollybank Rescue’s rota for the week in Staff Scheduling: kennels and cattery shifts for each person, and an open Sunday dog walking shift for two.

Sponsors give every month, and follow the animals they help.

Supporters gives the rescue a public page, with a free tier and monthly paid tiers. Payments go to your own Stripe account.

Posts can go to everyone or to paying sponsors, with photos, a video or a poll.

Hollybank Rescue’s sponsors page: what sponsorship pays for, then a free tier and three monthly tiers, each with what it pays for and how many sponsors it has.

Six more areas cover agreements, people, news, the website, supplies and the books.

An adoption goes from a post to a dog in its new home.

  1. The post

Biscuit's photos go out on social media.

  2. The application

A family applies on the form.

  3. The checks

The card moves to home check, then meet and greet.

  4. The agreement

The family signs the adoption agreement.

  5. The update

Sponsors see Biscuit settled in, in a post.

Setting up takes four steps.

  1. Build the adoption form

You choose its questions. Help: Build, publish, and share a form.

  2. Make the adoptions board

You set its columns once. Help: Track work with Kanban boards.

  3. Invite the regular volunteers

They then see their shifts. Help: Add staff and invite them to see their shifts.

  4. Connect Stripe

Sponsors can then give monthly by card. Help: Connect Stripe to receive money.

Plans

A rescue fits the Team plan, with each person who sees their shifts a member. Adopters, fosterers and sponsors are not added to it.

Magpie's fee on supporters' payments is 3%. Stripe's processing fee is taken from each card payment. Prices are on the Pricing page.

Other people who look after animals have pages of their own.

Questions animal rescues ask

Can people apply to adopt online?

Yes. An adoption form asks your questions. A File question can take a photo of the garden. You get an email for each application.

Can we follow each adoption from application to home?

Yes. Each application is a card on the adoptions board. It moves through your columns, with an assignee, a due date and To-dos.

Can adopters sign the adoption agreement online?

Yes. E-Signatures emails the agreement to sign. The signed copy comes with a certificate of completion.

Can people sponsor a kennel every month?

Yes. Supporters gives you monthly paid tiers, paid by card through Stripe. Sponsors change their card or cancel themselves.

Can volunteers see their shifts?

Yes. Each volunteer you invite sees their own shifts once the rota is published. They can swap a shift or take an open one.

Can we record feeding and medicines?

Yes. A routine's steps can ask for a yes or no, a number or a photo. Each finished checklist keeps who did it and when.

Can we post our animals to Instagram?

Yes. Social Media prepares the Instagram post and reminds you when it is time. Bluesky, Mastodon and LinkedIn posts go out on their own.

Can we keep track of food and litter?

Yes. Inventory counts them, and lists what is below the level you set. An order to your supplier starts from that list.
